Kahei (Anna) Ng

I have named this collection as ‘生’ (pinyin: sheng), a Chinese character that contains the
meaning of give birth to, be born, grow, live and life. Embodies that although indelible and
neglected scars are left on human bodies physically and mentally after surviving, we still
learn to accept and live with these pains since the past cannot be changed. I studied and
based this collection on 1912 to 1949 China when the country was descended into chaos
due to severe conflicts and wars, which I thought was a important period for the country. I drew attention to traditional garments such as QiPao and Chungsam, showing the garment
revolution by using different sizes of collar, creating juxtaposition by using jacquard with
fleece and stuffing, contrasting with detailed finishes, produced a sense of absurdity and
humor. I set the undertone of the collection as whimsical and weird, because that is what I
think of life.
