Alazia: the fear that you will not be able to change... My graduate collection chooses to explore the fear, need and persistence of change. My garments are created to display the ever-flowing cycle of decay to subsequent growth. The collections forms, textures and colours draw inspiration from natural formations such as tree grains and water ripples against the processes of erosion and decomposition. Each outfit undergoes metamorphoses by harnessing the use of water-soluble materials, pleats, tucks, and dyes allowing for initially constricted forms to be released from their cocoon allowing colour and texture to develop in front of your eyes. This performance acts as mirror to the worries and insecurities experienced surrounding change as I question the past, what things I hold on to from my lived experience and what does one outgrow and relearn differently. Alazia is created with this feeling in mind allowing all people to visualise and better understand and express these monumental shifts we encounter throughout life.
