Denim Dessous explores the supposed dissonance between everyday and occasional wear. Inspired by my own experience of growing up rurally where garments always required a standard of practicality and sensibility and were destined for gradual destruction with work and wear. The collection harmonises the everyday denim uniform with the glamorous materiality and silhouettes of occasional dress, often rendering the wearers mobility prioritising fashion over function. Lingerie accents hint at hidden moments of fantasy that exists en dessous (underneath), the everyday mundane. Celebrating deterioration as a sustainability principle also allows me to reflect on modernism and purity tropes that exist within occasional dress.
