Karina de Vries Apted

RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

This year’s work has culminated in a capsule collection that acts as my personal ‘essentials’ or ‘archetypes’. Inspired by the re-working of outdoor gear, hardware, cargo pockets, backpacks, I combined it with more whimsical and feminine silhouettes. This project was very process driven, collecting found objects such as second hand clothing, accessories, and remnants, dying and manipulating them when desired. These found pieces are then draped on the stand, and patterns are lifted or they are reworked, growing as they are being finished. My goal was long lasting, wearable, pieces that have a low environmental impact.
