'Adipose' is a collection that explores my lived experience with Lipoedema and fatphobia. While anybody can experience fatphobia, being fat makes it harder to escape. It permeates all aspects of life and can manifest in the form of medical mistreatment, discrimination and death threats, fetishisation, and mental health issues. The collection’s graphics were developed from imagery of my Lipoedema affected legs, while the wearable textile sculptures were made to emulate adipose tissue and the physical characteristics of fat. This bold and joyful collection encourages the wearer to reclaim the visual and physical space fat people are lambasted for occupying.
