Act 5 is a collection that unravels the world of ballet by exploring the beauty and the darker side of ballet. Whilst ballet is a beautiful and elegant form of art when we see it being performed effortlessly on stage with dancers in exquisite costumes, we tend to neglect the behind-the-scenes where the competitive and toxic culture drives dancers to meet unrealistic expectations. Drawing from my own experience as a ballet dancer, my collection aims to reveal this by subverting ballet-wear archetypes whilst retaining the delicacy and gracefulness of the archetypes and ballet itself.
