Kit Faulkner

RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

My work is informed by the body and masculinity; influenced by my queer and trans identities. I have created a collection of performative garments that the wearer can rip and deconstruct. Suiting archetypes represent the structured, constructed masculine persona, juxtaposed with organic anatomy: abstract muscles and veins underneath, stripped of the social contexts that determine to whom they belong. This reflects my own frustrations with the narrowness of traditional masculinity: a specific body and persona. This is the standard to which trans-masculine people are held, as a contingency for social acceptance, a paradigm I reject.
