My collection entitled “Blue is for Boys” is a re-imagining of the modern gentleman. This series of men’s evening wear looks are intended to re-define the male silhouette and the gender stereotypes of men’s fashion. Through use of the colour blue, I have re-defined a historically derogatory stereotype into a symbol of pride and gender fluidity. Assigning a colour to a young boy implements this stereotyped westernised way of thinking that a colour defines who you will grow up to be, a manly man. The idea that there is only one colour for boys reinforces that there is only one gender you’re allowed to claim. If this is the case, then let blue be for all the types of boys.
