My collection, "Threads of Duality," investigates the
complex layers of Taiwanese cultural identity through the lens of fashion, with a focus on the historical tension between traditional Taiwanese superstitions, religious practices, and the forces of Japanisation during the Japanese colonial period. This exploration is inspired by historical family photos from that era, revealing the juxtaposition of Qing-era cheongsams, Japanese kimonos, and
Western fashion. I aim to foster a deeper understanding of my cultural identity through history and the resilience of our ancestors, particularly women, who navigated the paradoxes of colonisation.
