RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

‘Malèna’ explores the experience of the female body within patriarchal systems. The collection is inspired by an old Italian film set in 1950s Sicily, with reference to my own Italian heritage and experience with old school European belief systems. The use of symbolism throughout each design acts as a ‘patriarchal footprint’, implemented into every garment to reflect the ideologies conveyed by this system. ‘Malèna’ tells the story of a woman who has been socially restricted and treated unfairly until she begins to feel empowered and in control of her own body.
