RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

This project was inspired by Marie Antoinette, known for using fashion as a powerful form of self-expression and a way of disregarding traditional and formal dress, Antoinette exposed her recklessness and independence to society. By combining pink, white, silky fabric and ruffles with black I create a rebel aesthetic with touches of femininity. Here, ruffles are reimagined, reframing them into something soft, delicate yet structured and statement-making. The ruffles are transformed from association with being girly, innocent, and sweet into something flirty, royal and daring suggesting a powerful and audacious feminine force. My project aims to create empowering portraits that showcase bold silhouettes and symbolise a modern Marie Antoinette that defies the conventional gown look.
