For the first time, the students from RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design) and Bachelor of Textiles (Design) in the School of Fashion and Textiles are presenting their final collections and projects in one collaborative website exhibition. These 112 innovative and dynamic works explore the experiences and materials of fashion and textiles in a time of radical change.
Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) celebrates Melbourne, Australia, and the students and staff who spent over 18 months in lockdown in this time zone. During this time, we stayed up late or woke up early to enjoy concerts in GMT, attend conferences in PST, and watch fashion shows in EST, but this exhibition re-centers our temporality back to Melbourne. We hope it highlights the output of our resilient and talented cohort of graduates.
Students graduating in 2021 bring an extra set of skills to the fashion and textiles industry, having developed new ways of working through enhanced digital literacy, building online communities, and the ability to respond to changing market demands championing responsible practice in the face of climate change.
This exhibition is the result of a cumulative effort between two capstone courses that cover creative studio practice and presentation. The works are developed from Year 3 courses Fashion Design Project Launch and Textile Design Project Launch, and the online exhibition was ideated as part of Fashion Design Presentation and Textile Design Presentation.
This year, students were invited to explore different visual mediums and methods of communicating their work, including moving and still images, installation, performance, and collaborative or participatory exhibition.
