Alexandra Spring

RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

My collection ‘Our Ecology’ looks to the cutting and unwinding of old garments into commercial, high end fashion pieces that promote positive, sustainable change. Natural, soft aesthetics are intertwined with sharp tailoring, exploring the human and nature relationship. My collection aims to act as an activist piece that portrays the harsh affects, we are having on coral reefs as a consequence of fast fashion practices. Hand sewn techniques are used to create form off the body, raw edges are exposed and threads drape from the garment - possessing the characteristics of coral and its deterioration over time.
