Kayla Doherty

RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

I produced a collection made entirely from waste. The issue of waste is what drives my designs, everyday household waste is produced in enormous quantities, as well as fashion and textile waste. The main materials I used are can tabs, hairnets, packing peanuts and plastic, I used crochet and sewing to combine these materials into my looks. I chose these materials as my research into the fashion industry and how it works shows me a great need for positive change in the form of sustainability. I want to see this positive change through reducing the need for new materials and ensuring ethical standards are met. My work targets the high fashion market, by using waste to make the collection I combine luxury fashion with sustainability and resourcefulness.
