Isabel Stubbs

RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

Examining the intersection of fashion and furniture, Wear Your Chair explores the relationship between these disciplines through their histories and theoretical frameworks. I interrogate the concept of reimagining and elevating a mass-manufactured armchair to add aesthetic and functional value. The textile artefacts created can be fastened to the armchair, enhancing its visual and practical appeal, and can also be transformed into full-body wearable pieces, each serving a dual purpose. Deconstructing the Bauhaus (Dessau 1925-32) principles of functionality and modernism, I incorporate minimalist, clean lines and a primary colour palette, creating design propositions that resonate with contemporary sensibilities. My background in interior architecture has enriched this exploration, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between the human body and its environment.
