RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design)

Mahmoud Darwish’s poem “Forgotten as if you never were” or "تكن لم كأنك تنسى” is an Arabic poem that uses metaphors to deliver the story of being painfully forgotten.
My collection “The Garden of Forgetfulness” is the embodiment of converting storytelling into the form of garments. I interpret being forgotten with the colours of black and white, which is why one of my dresses will be fully black and white. It will have hand stencil printed Arabic calligraphy of the title in Arabic to represent being written by the poet with ink. Furthermore, in the second look I am using the line “Like a bird’s violent death” to have a felted series flock of birds transitioning from colourful and alive to fade into black, white and dead. The third dress is to represent “and a rose in the night..........forgotten” which will have flowers frozen in time.
